Why is my voice important?
Because it is mine. Soaked in
my own past
experiences that have shaped me.
Given me a perspective
unique to me.
Grown from the seeds of
my youth
lessons and lies,
weeds that have to be tended.
My voice is what I've seen
what I've heard
what I believe
to be my truth.
Why is my voice important?
Because it is the voice of many.
We, me, you, them.
We share a common story.
We share a common need
to be heard, as one
of the many who need
our voices, together,
to reach the ears
of those that can move change.
Why is my voice important?
Because I long to heal
from a lifetime
of choking
down the fears
the lies
the love.
My voice is a gateway,
a conduit for
purging the burden.
Release these weights.
Pull the roots.
Open the doors.
Open, mouth.
Why is my voice important?
Because it is beautiful.
Vibrations in my body
matching the sounds
that I hear.
The synchronicity soothes me.
Takes me to another place
where time is not permitted.
Smiles on lips
impossible to control.
The lullaby that rocks
my daughter to sleep
fills my heart, heals my soul.
